Overview of Statutory and Workplace Health and Safety Requirements

Statutory and Workplace Health and Safety requirements form a valuable part of managing health and safety at ABC Services. These statutory requirements are borne out of laws that translate into legal requirements at the workplace level. Likewise, workplace health and safety requirements are instituted.

Whereas these requirements affect the organization within and externally, compliance is equally important. At regular intervals, these requirements are monitored by compliance evaluations to ensure that the level of compliance is met and that requirements remain relevant.

Evaluation of Legal Requirements

For every project undertaken by ABC Services, the Health and Safety Advisor carries out an evaluation of legal requirements to ensure that company’s activities are in compliance. First of all Statutory requirements applicable to the operations of the company are looked at. Here licenses, permits, accreditations, health, and safety obligations are considered among others. This is followed by an evaluation of Health and Safety Policies, Plans and Procedures of the internal process by evaluating records and conducting site inspections. To satisfy both statutory and workplace health and safety requirements, a legal and other requirement register is compiled for guidance, and audits are conducted to check effectiveness.

ISO 45001:2018 and Interested Parties

As a conforming ISO 45001:2018 company, the organization follows a series of guidance that acts to provide health and safety assurance to interested parties. Where interested parties are those who are affected by our activities, the organization is able to converse with these interested parties to meet their health and safety needs. The ISO 45001:2018 makes it a mandatory requirement to achieve this.

Assessment of Chemical Substances

For every project, the organization assesses the suitability of chemical substances. This assessment is carried to evaluate the composition of chemicals and exposure limits to ascertain how it can be used so as not to affect the health and safety of users and other people that may be indirectly affected on site. The criteria consider whether the chemical can have an acute or chronic effect on users.

Defining Statutory and Workplace Health and Safety Requirements

1. Be able to define the statutory and workplace health and safety requirements for the organization As a minimum relevant information is got from labels but the law requires manufacturers to provide a safety data sheet on the chemical substances. The organization assesses all workers using the products for competence regarding health and safety and also considers purchasing less hazardous products in all situations.

Tools and Equipment Selection

At ABC Services, tools, and equipment are properly selected. The selection process is carried out with a risk assessment. This ensures that the right tools are used, the right standards are considered i.e. CE Mark and competent workers employed. These are developed in line with the company policies and procedures.

Environmental Evaluation and Waste Management

An environmental evaluation of through our waste management procedure allows the company to identify unwanted materials like a waste. How it can be reduced on-site, how it is generated, segregated and disposed-off, and captured in records in line with with and management and environmental compliance.
